OUR PROGRAMS

The Academy's programs are designed for people of all ages and levels. CanadaWest Academy employs only certified teachers from Canadian universities or accredited universities abroad.

Preparatory Programs

Preparatory classes are designed to prepare elementary and high school students for English, Social Studies, Math, Sciences and if required Communications 11 or 12. These courses introduce students to what they will be learning in regular elementary and high school classes. All classes are based on British Columbia Provincial Curriculum Guidelines.

*University preparatory programs are taken as tutoring, meaning that there will be one student and one teacher.

SAT / SSAT Test Prep

Scholastic Aptitude Test is for those students wishing to go to a college or university in the United States. It is a requirement for all students who want to obtain a post secondary education in the United States. This course is intended to help students prepare for all sections of the test including the math portion of the test.

GMAT Test Prep

Graduate Management Admission Test is a standardized test for those students planning to enter university MBA programs. Sections of this test that are covered include: Verbal Ability , Quantitative Ability and Analytical Writing Assessment (Reading comprehension, grammar, mathematics, critical reasoning, and essay writing).

Grammar and Writing Program

Writing is an important skill necessary for education, business and pleasure. This course helps students improve their grammar, organizational and writing skills.

Tutoring

Private instruction is available upon request. All tutoring is personalized one to one instruction by certified teachers. Tutoring is available for all elementary and high school subjects, languages, university math and sciences.

TOEFL / TOEFL IBT (Internet Based TOEFL)

Test of English as a Foreign Language is a requirement for all students who want to attend university in Canada or the United States. This course is designed to increase listening, grammar, reading and writing skills, as well as improve vocabulary. It is designed for those students who wish to get a post secondary education. Students can also register to take the TOEFL IBT test.

TOEIC

Test of English for International Communication is a course designed for students needing or wanting to take the TOEIC test. The emphasis is on listening, grammar, conversation, and writing. Test dates will be posted at the Academy.

Summer / Winter Programs

We offer special summer and winter programs in addition to our regular classes. The programs are 4 weeks with English in the morning and activities in the afternoon. Get out into the community, see Vancouver and use your English. This is great for people of all ages and English levels.

Intensive Conversational Language Programs: English, French, Spanish, Mandarin and Farsi

Designed to rapidly improve overall fluency, these programs will enable students to improve their grammar, listening, conversation and reading skills, while also improving vocabulary and pronunciation. These programs are also intended and designed for professionals wishing to improve their conversation and listening skills for leisure, official activities and business.

* All courses can be taken as full time, part time or for 10 week programs.

* The Academy also has a selection of other short term courses.
